The Man Behind the Walls
My name is Cynthia I'm the CEO of Barbers4change. This organization was created on the inspiration of my husband's story. He has been through so much from his upbringing to making bad choices as a minor to now cutting incarcerated individuals' hair, attending groups and working forward on his business degree. What he has done he can't undo, but he has changed his life around and trying to do we he can to make a positive lifestyle. This non-profit gives other incarcerated individuals an opportunity who has the passion for barbering to make a bigger difference.
His Story: As someone who has made mistakes, someone who has felt the weight of bad decisions, but also someone who believes in redemption, second chances, and the power of change — I write these words not as the person I once was, but as the person, I’ve worked every day to become.
Twenty years behind prison walls gave me more than time — they gave me perspective. In those years, I’ve sat with my choices, acknowledged the pain I caused, and committed myself to understanding not just what I did, but why I did it. That understanding became the foundation for my transformation.
I learned that growth doesn't happen in comfort, and change isn’t instant — it’s a daily decision. Through education, self-reflection, spiritual grounding, and service to others inside, I began to rebuild my character. I learned how to listen. How to take accountability without excuses. How to let go of who I was so I could become who I want to be — someone my community can trust, someone my family can be proud of, someone I can live with.
Redemption isn’t about forgetting the past. It’s about owning it, learning from it, and using it to write a different future. I know I can't undo what’s been done, but I can move forward with integrity, empathy, and purpose. I’m not asking for forgiveness as a shortcut, but I do ask for the opportunity to show, through my actions, that people can change — because I have.

What makes us different
Barbers4Change isn't just about haircuts - it's about healing, hope, and human connection. The organization uses the art of barbering as a tool for rehabilitation, mentorship, and empowerment, especially for those impacted by incarceration or social hardship. It turns a simple service into a symbol of newel and second chances.
